A Book I Dare You to Read…

It’s not often that I recommend a book without any hesitation, because so many different people have so many different schools of thoughts about so many things. However, I just finished reading a book that came out this year called The Christian Atheist by Craig Groeschel. I was very challenged by this book, and I hope it rocks your world as much as it did mine. I dare you to read it! Please email me your thoughts after you read the book (nancy.alcorn@mercyministries.com). I would love hear what you think!

Cool, I am going to check it out!

Currently reading "A Tale of Three Kings" by Gene Edwards. Ever read that one? Yeah...VERY challening as well! The first time I read it was at Mercy (Kyomi's recommendation). Great book...

I just watched his promo video on the book's website. Honestly, the book doesn't sound appealing to me at all. Mainly because of the strange title that makes no sense, even with his explanation of it. The definition of atheism is someone who does NOT believe in God or any deity - so how does his definition make any sense? Also, it's strange that he claims he made up the term, because philosophers and theologians have been writing about the term throughout the entire century - and they actually use the term atheism correctly in their definitions of christian atheism. Lastly, it's frequently disheartening to me that we "need" megachurch pastors to write books reminding Christians to follow Jesus' teachings, when the bible clearly states that faith without works is dead. That's a pretty clear exhortation for action. Reminds me of a Rich Mullins quote: "But I guess that’s why God invented highlighters, so we can highlight the parts we like and ignore the rest."
